Talking Tom Cat 2 is the free, ad-supported follow-up to the popular app Talking Tom, featuring an animated cat that repeats everything you say in a funny voice.
Although Talking Tom Cat 2 has little repeat play value for grownups, the app is predictably a hit with the most kiddos--and its animation and graphics are above average for an app like this (especially in the iPad version). In addition to repeating what you say, Tom has several reactions you can trigger, like purring when you stroke him or hissing and clawing when you poke him. You can also record a video of Tom, which you can then save or share via e-mail, Facebook, or YouTube. A few more elaborate animations involve Tom's "neighbor" Ben, a dog who enjoys harassing Tom (such as Ben scaring Tom by popping a paper bag, causing Tom to leap up to a chandelier).
Overall, this is a fun, lightweight app, but parents should be aware of a few things: it's slightly violent (you can slap and poke Tom to the point that he falls down unconscious), one animation involves Harold noisily passing gas (sure, you can't avoid fart jokes with kids, but maybe you don't want to encourage them), and a few of the buttons trigger requests for in-app purchases, to unlock more abilities.
